Arnold Wilburn Moir, 82 of Columbus and formerly of North Vernon passed away at 9:00 pm on Tuesday, February 23 2010 at Columbus Health and Rehabilitation Center.
Born on February 10, 1928 in Indianapolis, Arnold was the son of the late Cloyce and Wilma Lamaster Moir. He married Katheryn "Katie" Cheek and she survives.
Mr. Moir had been part owner in his early years of Moir Lumber and later owned Katydid Construction. He built the Scipio United Methodist Church, the Little Nashville Opry House and homes all over southern Indiana. He was also the developer for the North Gate Edition. Arnold enjoyed recording and playing oldies music and playing the harmonica at music festivals and nursing homes with his brothers in a group called the Moir Brothers until just recently.
He is survived by his wife, Katie; a daughter, Melanie (Thomas) Day of Columbus; two sons, Donald E. (Coral) Moir of Tennessee and Charles W. Moir of North Carolina; a brother, Vernon Moir of North Vernon; six grandchildren, Michael, Dustin I., and Nicholas T. Eudy, Amber Silcox, Melissa Dillo, and A.J. Moir; and six great-grandchildren.
Mr. Moir was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Shawn Michael Moir, and a brother, Conrad Moir.
Funeral Information
A memorial service is planned for 2:00 pm on Friday, February 26, 2010 at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home with Vernon Moir officiating. A gathering of friends and family will take place from noon until the time of the service.
