Anna Mae(Hester) Megel, 92, of North Vernon passed away at 9:58 p.m. Friday, April 1, 2011 at St. Paul's Hermitage in Beech Grove.
Born January 20, 1919 in Jennings County, she was the daughter of Edward and Gertrude Schuck Hester. She married John Megel November 23, 1939. He preceded her in death on December 8, 2003.
Anna Mae was a devoted mother and homemaker. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 4-Corners. She was a member of Daughters of Isabella, the Rosary Society of St. Joseph's, and the Home Economics Club. She volunteered with the Red Cross and numerous blood drives. Anna Mae enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by sons, Dan (Jan) and Mike (Marianna) Megel of Hayden; daughters, Dottie Davis of Carmel, Jane (Elmer) Graf of Memphis, IN, Sister Anna Marie Megel of Our Lady of Grace Monastery at Beech Grove, Teresa (Joe) Pierce of Louisville, KY, and Mary (Charlie) Weber of North Vernon; one brother, Robert Hester of Columbus, and one sister, Betty Yount of Vero Beach, FL; twenty-eight grandchildren, and thirty-seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a sister, Margaret Reinhart, and two brothers, Edward Hester Sr., and Joe Hester.
A special thanks to Rose, Karen, Donna, Madonna, Marcia, and Mary Beth for the many years of care and to the compassionate and loving support given to Anna Mae and family by the staff of St. Paul's Hermitage.
Funeral Information
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted Wednesday, April 6, 2011 at 10:30a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church at 4-Corners. The Rev. Jonathan Meyer will officiate.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Sawyer - Pickett Funeral Home.
A rosary service will be conducted at 3:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Donations Information
Memorials may be made to Our Lady of Grace Monastery in Beach Grove or St. Paul's Hermitage in Beech Grove.
