Anna Marie Mayer, 85, of North Vernon died Tuesday evening at her residence following an illness.
Born Feb. 18, 1923, in Wabaunsee, Kan., she was the daughter of Walter and Elizabeth Hahn Simons. She married Richard Mayer on Oct. 28, 1950. He preceded her in death in 1994.
Mrs. Mayer had worked as a registered nurse at the former Muscatatuck State Developmental Center. She had been a member of the Ladies Golf Association at Ford's Crossing Golf Course and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a patron of the Jennings County Players and North Vernon Park Theatre Civic Centre. She enjoyed playing golf, reading and gardening.
Mrs. Mayor is survived by two sons, Bryce (Roberta) Mayer of North Vernon and Mike (Kim) Mayer of Unionville; three daughters; Jill (Joseph) Wahlman and Amy (Jack) Kelley of North Vernon, and Deborah (Jonathan) Chase of Fayetteville, N.C.; grandchildren Leah and Allison Aiken, Michael and Kyle Chase, Adrienne and Taryn Mayer, Jeffrey and Kim Wahlman, Zach Collier, Ty Mayer, Justin, Jerrod, John and Joe Kelley; two brothers, Robert and Jim Simons of Topeka, Kan., and three sisters; Eleanor Slusser and Jessie Russell of Topeka, and Alice Bauer of Glendale, Ariz.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Bud Simons; two sisters; Katie Morris and Peggy Heptig; and one granddaughter, Karen Wahlman.
Funeral Information
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Joe Sheets officiating. Visitation is Sunday from 3 to 8 p.m. at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral Home. A Rosary service led by Walter Glover, Chaplain at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital at 3 p.m. Burial will be in the Vernon Cemetery.
