Ann M. Matern, 82, of North Vernon, passed away at 6:55 p.m. on February 6, 2022, at home.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 10, 2022, at St. Ann Catholic Church. Rev. Jerry Byrd will officiate. Burial will be in the St. Ann Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 9, 2022, with the Rosary being conducted at 3:30 p.m., at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service.
Born on August 14, 1939, in Jennings County, Ann was the loving daughter of Nicholas and Victoria (Dlugos) Hillen. She was united in marriage to Kenneth Matern on September 13, 1958. He preceded her in death on January 10, 2011.
Ann was a member of St. Ann Catholic Church. She worked at home on the farm and volunteered at St. Vincent DePaul. Ann enjoyed reading, watching her children and grandchildren play sports throughout the years, and spending time at the pond. Most of all, Ann loved spending time with her family and friends.
Ann is survived by daughters, Linda (Brian) Capes, and Ellen (Kevin) Capes all of North Vernon; sons, Allan Matern, and Glen (Shannan) Matern all of North Vernon; grandchildren, Nicole Carter, Katelyn Meadows, Mallory Liston, Bridgett Jagger, Kenny Matern, Korbyn Matern, Todd Capes, Daniel Capes, Adam Capes, and Matthew Capes; step-grandchildren, Taylor Ramey, Alex Ramey, Logan Goff, Kohl Goff; Twelve great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas and Victoria Hillen; husband, Kenneth Matern; Daughters, Margaret, Martha, and Loretta Ann Matern; grandson, Evan Allan Capes; granddaughter, Asa Ramey; brothers, Frank and Leo Hillen; sisters, Madonna Hillen, Mary Jane Pollard, and Catherine Hoffman.
Memorials can be made through the funeral home to St. Vincent DePaul or Our Hospice of Jennings County.
