Anita Vance, 92, of North Vernon, passed away at 7:43 a.m. on Sunday, January 9, 2022, at Ascension St. Vincent Jennings County Hospital.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at Tea Creek Baptist Church. Rev. Philip Elliott will officiate. Burial will be in the Tea Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the start of the service. Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service are entrusted with the arrangements.

Born on November 27, 1929, in Midway, Kentucky, Anita was the youngest of three daughters born to Cecil and Lummie (King) Shumate. She was united in marriage to Evert Lee Vance on January 2, 1948 in Scottsburg Indiana. He preceded her in death on February 27, 2011.

Anita graduated from Paris Crossing High School in 1947. She had worked for over 20 years in several government offices, eventually retiring from Jennings County Courthouse. Anita was a member of Tea Creek Baptist where she had taught Sunday School throughout the years. Known as "Neatsie" to many, she was known for her extended family gatherings, complete with hayrides and walks through the woods. She also enjoyed sewing.

Anita is survived by daughters, Kathie Maschino of Hayden, and Karen Perry of North Vernon; sons, Michael (Linda) Vance of North Vernon, and Barry (Sandy) Vance of North Vernon; sister, Ledell McConnell of Scipio; grandchildren, Troy (Missy) Vance, Nikki (Chad) Ebinger, Vanessa Vance, Trevor Vance, Trent Vance, Amanda (Jeff) Morrison, Sally (Eric) Woods, Andy (Courtney) Maschino, Sara (Joe) Leuthold, Jeremy Miller, Tim (Pam) Miller, and Ryan (Rebekah) Miller; twenty-four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Cecil and Lummie Shumate; husband, Evert Lee Vance; sister, Irene Wynn; son in law, Edward Maschino; great granddaughter, Jordyn Vance.
