Andrew de Boer, 87 of Westport passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at his residence.
Born in the Rotsterhaule, Freisland Holland (Netherlands) on February 7, 1923, Andrew was the son of Wiebe and Janke (de Jong) de Boer. He married Henny (Wienya) de Boer in 1959 she survives.
Andy grew up on the family dairy farm until WWII. The Germans then took him to work for them on a dairy farm in Aachen, Germany. After the war, he worked for a Black Forest logging company in Germany hauling logs. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1951 and worked for the Harvey McMillen farm in Acton, IN. He had also worked for the Joe Vanderburg farm in Franklin, IN.; the National Tea company in Indianapolis, IN.; operated a dairy in Camby, IN. and worked with Pete Baldwin in West Newton, IN. until 1976. He moved to Jennings County and worked for Insta-Housing and the Jennings County School Corporation until he retired in 1993.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Wilma (Paul) Marcoux and Janet Price both of North Vernon; grandchildren, Jeremy and Nicholas Hermann, Kyle, Emily and Andrew Price, Tyler and Cailianna Marcoux; two sisters, Nene de Boer of Holland, Teene Rodenhuis de Boer of Needham and one brother Klaas de Boer of Holland.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Douwe, Herman and Minne de Boer and two sisters, Alice (de Boer) Schroeder and Rinskje (de Boer) de Yong.
Funeral Information
A funeral service will be held at noon on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Bear Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Estes officiating. Visitation will be Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be at Bear Creek Cemetery.
Donations Information
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Hospice of Jennings County through the funeral home.
