Alma M. Ramey, 75, of North Vernon passed away at 3:58 AM Saturday, May 9, 2015, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour.
Born March 4, 1940, in Jennings County, Alma was the daughter of Jake and Hattie Lainhart Ramey.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She served as a Eucharistic minister for many years until she became ill. She worked for St. Vincent - Jennings Hospital as an Emergency Room Receptionist for nineteen years. After that, she was an integral part of running Dane's Restaurant with her son, Robin, in Vernon. She also co-owned A&R Import in Scipio. She was the winner of the first pumpkin pie baking contest at the Bittersweet and Cider Days Festival in Vernon in 1997. She loved cooking, and spending time with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Ron Heavern of North Vernon; sons, Robin Hall of Tampa, FL, and Darren Heavern of North Vernon; step-son, Larry (Carol) Heavern of Panama City, FL; brothers, William (Lee Esther) Ramey of North Vernon, and Paul "Mike" (Dottie) Ramey of Scipio; grandchildren, Shayna Heavern, Eric Joseph Perdue, Christina and Michael Hall, and Larry Daniel Heavern; great-grandchildren, Devon and Lynx William Heavern, and Emmett Daniel Herr.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Pete and Billy Ramey; one sister, Joy Ellen Ramey.
Funeral Information
A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 13, 2015, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Rev. Jerry Byrd will officiate. Interment will be in Vernon Cemetery. A rosary service will be conducted at 3:30 PM, and visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday at Sawyer - Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service.
