Samantha Lynna Cox

Samantha Lynna Cox, 27, of Myrtle Beach, SC, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at her residence.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 11, 2018, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service.  Rev. Drew Dukes will officiate.  Visitation will be held Thursday, May 10th, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Born June 19, 1990, in Indianapolis, Samantha was the daughter of Robert and Phyllis Leeds Olmstead.  She graduated from Jennings County High School in 2009 and from Ivy Tech (Madison) in 2018 with her degree as an RN. 

Samantha was currently working at Grand Strand Medical Center as a registered nurse.  She had previously been employed as an EMT and had worked at King’s Daughters Hospital in Madison.  She loved her children and was a good friend and daughter.  She enjoyed the beach, the outdoors and laughing.

She is survived by her parents, Robert and Phyllis Olmstead of North Vernon; her son, Kyle James Lee Matthews (Troy Matthews, father) of Bedford; her daughter, Rebecca Michelle Matthews (Troy Matthews, father) of Bedford; her step-daughter, Taylor Cox (Brian Cox, father) of Madison; her brother, Chris Leahigh of Madison; two sisters, Amanda Williams of Columbus and Cecilia Leahigh of North Vernon.

Samantha was preceded in death by her grandparents, Charles and Ruth Olmstead, Eugene and Pat Leeds, John and Kay O’Sullivan; and two aunts, Sandy Chaille and Margery Olmstead.
