Rex G. Sanders

Rex G. Sanders, 50, of North Vernon, passed away at 4:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at his residence.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 22, 2018, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service.  Rev. David Brown will officiate.  Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 21, 2018 at the funeral home.

Born March 13, 1967, in Seymour, Rex was the son of Leroy and Marna Pauls Sanders.

Rex graduated from Jennings County High School in 1985.  While at JCHS, Rex was a member of the Panther cross country, basketball and baseball teams.  He was a proud member of the 1985 Final Four Panther Baseball Team.  Rex graduated from Georgetown College in 1990.  He was a member of the Georgetown Tigers Baseball Team who made a trip to the NAIA World Series in 1988.  He was a JCHS assistant baseball coach from 1993-1998.  Rex played softball for Wilson Concrete and Triple J Sports, which won the NSA Coed World Series in 1996.  He currently was a 12-U Panther baseball coach.

He loved coaching his boys and watching his daughter dance.  He enjoyed spending time with his family, watching basketball games, fishing and campfires with the kids.  He loved being a Panther, as well as coaching the Panthers.

Rex is survived by his wife, Jill Blackburn Sanders; two sons, Jace and Bret Sanders of North Vernon; a daughter, Karie Sanders of North Vernon; his mother, Marna Sanders of North Vernon; one sister, Tammy (Dan) Hill of North Vernon; six brothers; Randy Sanders of North Vernon, Rik (Kathy) Sanders of Columbus, Rusty (Pam) Sanders of Indianapolis, Ronny (Angie) Sanders of North Vernon, Rodney (Ronda) Sanders of North Vernon and Roger (Kristi) Sanders of Franklin; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Sanders.

Rex will always be a "Panther."

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Our Hospice of Jennings County or Sanders Strong Fund.
