Naomi Ruth Marksberry

Naomi Ruth Marksberry, 87, of North Vernon passed away at 3:20 PM Sunday, June 18, 2017, at St. Vincent – Jennings Hospital.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 21, 2017, at Sawyer – Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. Rev. Sherman Beville will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Born October 19, 1929, in Nineveh, she was the daughter of John C. and Minnie Pearl Hines Rockey. She married Cecil Marksberry. He preceded her in death.

Ruth was the sexton of Hillcrest Cemetery along with her husband for forty years. She had been attending Scipio United Methodist Church, and was a member of Coffee Creek Conservation Club. She dearly loved spending time and talking with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing bingo, and going to casinos.

She is survived by sons, David Rockey of North Vernon, Melvin, Larry, and Rick Marksberry of North Vernon; daughters, Donna “Susie” Gaines of North Vernon, Brenda Smith of Burn, IN, and Peggy Meadows of Brownstown; sisters, Delores “Bill” Dixon, Marilyn Brown, Wilma Grider, and Edna Ernstes of North Vernon; one brother, Joe Rockey of Ohio; twenty-two grandchildren; several great and great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one infant daughter, Ruthann Marksberry.

Memorial may be made to the National Kidney Foundation through the funeral home.
