Jerry Lee Shepherd, Sr.

Jerry Lee Shepherd, Sr., 78, of North Vernon, passed away at 12:48 a.m. on December 1, 2017, at St. Vincent Jennings Hospital.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service.  Rev. Tom Mattingly will officiate.  Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 11, 2017.  A Masonic Service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.   Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery.

Born August 26, 1939, in Mt. Sterling, KY, Jerry was the son of the late George and Ruby Thorpe Shepherd.  He graduated from Dupont High School in 1958 and married Ida Jean Payton on December 28, 1958.  She survives. 

Jerry had worked at Cummins as a lab technician.  He enjoyed fishing and was a member of the Dupont Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Rolling Hills Shriners and Murat Temple.

In addition to his wife, Ida Jean, Jerry is survived by a son, Jerry (Marie) Shepherd, Jr. of North Vernon; one daughter, Teresa Shepherd of Crothersville; one brother, Pete Shepherd of North Vernon; two sisters, Linda Sedam of Madison and Shirley Herring of Columbus; six grandchildren, Nathan, Hannah, Mike and Tonya Shepherd, Matt Browning and Missi Clouse; and ten great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruby Shepherd; one son, Gary Allen Shepherd; and one great-grandchild, Faith Browning.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Shrine Transport Fund.
