Obituary

James W. Reynolds, 85, of Commiskey, IN died peacefully on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 at home and surrounded by his family.

Arrangements are being handled by Sawyer Pickett Funeral and Cremation Services. The visitation will be from noon to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 21, 2019, at Tea Creek Baptist Church. This will be followed by a funeral service and a graveside burial service. All are invited to stay for a light lunch with family.

Jim was a 1952 graduate of North Vernon High School, a veteran of the United States Army serving at the end of the Korean War, and a graduate of Indiana University (BA, MS, Ed. S.). He held various jobs before serving as principal at Southside Elementary, Scipio Elementary, and Graham Creek Elementary for over two decades. He served as a director of the SEI Data Rural Telephone Company for twenty-five years. He was also president of the Jennings County Community Foundation for seven years. Jim was a longtime member of Tea Creek Baptist Church, holding various offices. A farmer and outdoorsman at heart, he enjoyed raising cattle, hunting, cutting wood, and fishing. He was also an avid bowler and loved to travel.

Born May 3rd, 1934 in Butlerville, IN, Jim was the oldest son of Walter and Edna Reynolds. He married Jane A. Kinder at Tea Creek Baptist Church on November 24th, 1965, and she survives. Other survivors include his daughter Carmen R. (Benjamin) Lawler and their two children, Madeleine and Calvin Lawler, of Marshfield, WI. Five siblings also survive: Hugh (Pat) Reynolds of Coco Beach, FL, Enid Reynolds of Butlerville, IN, Miles Reynolds, Smithton, IL, Ann Caslan of Dayton Beach, FL, and Brian Reynolds of Greensburg, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Ethan J. Reynolds.

Jim will be remembered for the attentiveness, support, and care he provided to an ever-expanding circle of family and friends.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Ethan J. Reynolds Scholarship Fund through the JCCF or to Tea Creek Baptist Church.
