Donald F. Tolbert

Donald F. Tolbert, 87, of North Vernon, passed away at 10:50 p.m. on Monday, January 29, 2018, at his residence.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service.  Rev. Jim Fuston will officiate.  Visitation will be from noon until the time of the service on Saturday.

Born March 26, 1930, in Shoals, IN, Donald was the son of the late Felix and Violet Sanders Tolbert.  He married Mary Eileen Waples in 1960.  She preceded him in death in 1996. 

He worked for the B&O Railroad and retired from Kocolene Oil Company as a station manager after 27 years.  Donald was a member of Old Paths Church of God and the National Muzzleloader Rifle Association.  He enjoyed fishing, shooting at Friendship, IN, and woodworking.  He was a volunteer for many organizations.  His children thought he was the best dad anyone could have.   

Donald is survived by two sons, Larry Shinolt and Doc (Betty) Shinolt all of North Vernon; two daughters, Lynda Pettigrew of North Vernon and Marilyn Jean (David) Morgan of AL; long-time companion, Velma Marling; two sisters, Betty and Alma; six grandchildren; three great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Felix and Violet Tolbert; his wife, Mary Tolbert; a sister, Jewell Sherfick; and two great grandchildren, Bradley “Moose” Shinolt and Damon Barrett.
