Rev. William A. Ramey

Rev. William A. Ramey, 85, of North Vernon, passed away at 2:50 a.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, at his residence.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 5, 2017, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service.  Rev. Ed Thorp will officiate.  Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 4, 2017 at the funeral home.  Burial and military graveside rites will be held at Vernon Cemetery.

Born June 28, 1932, in Jennings County, Rev. Ramey was the son of the late William and Hattie Lainhart Ramey.  He married Lee Esther Bruner on October 1, 1952.  She survives.

Rev. Ramey had served in the U.S. Army, driven a school bus for 40 years, farmed and worked in maintenance for the United States Postal Service for 30 years.  He had served as a minister since the age of sixteen, with the past fifty years of his life devoted as the pastor of Queensville Community Church.  Rev. Ramey enjoyed playing music and had stated that “church has been my whole life.”

In addition to his wife, Rev. Ramey is survived by three sons, Wesley Ramey of Florida, Wade Ramey of California and Mark Ramey of North Vernon; one daughter, Joy Ramey of Vevay; one brother, Paul “Mike” Ramey of North Vernon; 13 grandchildren,  31 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Hattie Ramey; two brothers, Virgil and Billy Ramey; and one sister, Alma Ramey.

Memorials may be made through the funeral home to Queensville Community Church.
