Nancy Jean Rice Eastman

Nancy Jean Rice Eastman, 59, of North Vernon passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis.

A funeral service will be conducted at 10:00 AM Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church. Rev. Marvin Sweet will officiate. Interment will be in Vernon Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday at First United Methodist Church and 9:00 AM until the time of the service Tuesday at the church.

Born September 15, 1956 in Scranton, PA, Nancy was the daughter of John and Norma (Reese) Rice. She married Mike Eastman on May 21, 1983.

Nancy graduated from North Hunterdon High School in Annandale, NJ in 1974 and Marywood University in Scranton, PA in 1978. She earned her M.S. degree in special education at Indiana University.  She taught special education at Muscatatuck State Developmental Center. Nancy was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. She participated in the church choir, was on the board of directors for the Jennings County Players and the Jennings County Library Board. She enjoyed scrapbooking, reading and sewing.

Nancy is survived by her mother, Norma Rice of Clinton, NJ; husband, Mike Eastman of North Vernon; son, Jon Eastman of North Vernon; daughter, Kate Eastman of North Vernon; sister, Christine Rice of Clinton, NJ.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or First United Methodist Church.
