Billie L. Estes, 94, of North Vernon, passed away at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2018, at her residence.
A funeral service will be conducted Thursday, March 8, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral and Cremation Service. Elders of First Christian Church of North Vernon and Rev. Ricky Persons will officiate. Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery.
Born November 30, 1923, in Red Boiling Springs, TN, Mrs. Estes was the daughter of the late Pleas and Mattie Wilson Davis. She married James P. Estes, Sr., on March 30, 1946 in Columbus, IN. He preceded her in death on May 25, 1995. She married Charles Hanmore on August 15, 1996 and he preceded her in death on November 11, 2013.
Mrs. Estes had worked at ITT Thompson and Miller Greenhouse in North Vernon. She enjoyed gardening, yard work, baking, cooking and spending time with her family. She was an active member of First Christian Church in North Vernon and enjoyed attending church. She enjoyed blessing others with gifts of candy.
Survivors include her son, George Estes of North Vernon; two daughters, Sherrie (Jerry) Greene of North Vernon and Lora Thomas of Seymour; three sisters, Shirley Good of Arcola, IL, Rita (Johnny) Likens of Tompkinsville, KY and Lillie (Larry) Delk of Lafayette, TN; twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-three great grandchildren.
Mrs. Estes was preceded in death by two sons, James P. and Jeff L. Estes; four brothers, Leon, Jesse, Bobby and Louie Davis; and two sisters, Imogene Burgess and Dorothy L. Acton.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to First Christian Church.
